This term saw the Home Economics students focusing on special diets. Athletic people’s diet was examined and analysed by focusing on the diet of the Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. Students examined food labels, analysed the differences between convenience foods and home made food products and based on the nutritional knowledge they gained they planned, prepared and cooked a range of meals that were high in protein while being balanced and based on the New Food Pyramid 2016.
Our debating club is continuing to see strong public speakers develop. The members were encouraged to examine the effects and causes of bullying over this term. Debates such as “Bullying is never considered banter”, “The Bully never sleeps” and “Quantity of friends is more important than quality of friends” were presented and debated by some members of the debating club as part of friendship week. The whole school was invited to participate in these debates which resulted in interesting points being made. Debating club continues to meet on Thursdays at lunch time. New members are always welcome.
A few weeks ago in CDL we launched a lunch time coding club to allow students to successfully learn to program. For the first few weeks we are allowing the students to explore and learn, introducing themselves to the basic concepts and language of programming. We live in a complex world, one in which technology plays a major role and more jobs require computer skills.
We are using the web based tools from www.code.org to introduce ourselves to the world of programming. The great thing about this website is that anyone can learn to code using any device.
Code.org® is a non-profit organisation dedicated to expanding access to computer science.
The students are working their way through tasks and building their knowledge. Eventually they will be creating all sorts of games, applications and interactive animations — equipped with varying levels of difficulty — with very little guidance from me.
All are welcome to join. Coding Club is on every Thursday at 1.15pm in the Computer Lab.

Bhí na daltaí sa chéad bhliain “LIVE ON AIR” an tseachtain seo caite le réamhaisnéis na haimsire ag Coláiste De Lacy.
Bhí post tábhachtach ag gach duine – bhí siad ina láithreoir, eagarthóir, stiúrthóir, scriptscríbhneoir agus fear/bean ceamara.
I rith na seachtaine roimhe seo, bhíomar ag foghlaim faoin aimsir, na contaetha agus na treoracha agus ba dheis iontach é seo an triú chuid a chun le chéile i mbealach cruthaitheach.
Bhí craic agus spraoi ag gach duine. Bhí siad ag obair go dian chun fís siamsúil a chruthú le chéile don rang agus don mhúinteoir agus bhíomar go léir ag gáire ag an deireadh. Maith thú!
